moon jelyfish
Take for instance jellyfish. We see them all the time. I know what moon jellyfish look like. But what is going on here? Take a look at this thing and tell me it doesn't look strange. The second picture is untouched. One of the moon jellyfish's defining features is the interesting pattern in the center of the disk. In some individuals it resembles a loosely arranged four leaf clover pattern. What is to us an interesting design is actually the reproductive organs.
This jellyfish is a carnivore. It eats plankton that it catches while floating in the water column. Their prey includes a wide variety of small organisms like juvenile mollusks and crustaceans, rotifers, young polychaetes, protozoans, diatoms, tunicate larvae and fish eggs. Tentacles that hang down from the underside of the animal sweep the water, entangling whatever it encounters. Stinging nematocysts are effective at killing their prey and secreted mucus helps hold onto ensnared plankton.

dengue mosquito pics and facts mostly dengerous

dengue mosquito facts and desies
Dengue(Aedes) Mosquito bites only during the day and it lays its eggs in clean, shady and stagnant water which is the best place for growing. These dengue mosquitoes have black and white strips on its body.medical fact is that Aedes mosquitoes that feed on blood are only female mosquitoes. Researchers explain the reason that the female mosquitoes require protein to produce eggs and they suck this protein from the blood. Gentle male mosquitoes feed on plant nectar only. A female Aedes mosquito lays about 300 eggs in a life span of 14 to 21 days on an average.

pictures of mosquito larvae

Larvae breathe through spiracles located on the eighth abdominal segment, or through a siphon, and therefore must come to the surface frequently. The larvae spend most of their time feeding on algae, bacteria, and other micro-organisms in the surface microlayer. They dive below the surface only when disturbed. Larvae swim either through propulsion with the mouth brushes,or by jerky movements of the entire body, giving them the common name of "wigglers" or "wrigglers".
Larvae develop through four stages, or instars, after which they metamorphose into pupae. At the end of each instar, the larvae molt, shedding their skin to allow for further growth.
As seen on the picture, larvae make dense groups in standing water. A shift in the feeding behavior of those mosquitoes helps explain the rising incidence of West Nile virus in North America. It appears that the darker structure at the top center of the image is one pupa.

pictures mosquito bites infections

Ever wonder where the incets go in the winter time. Some migrate to warmer climates, but most insects stay here year round. They employ a variety of tactics for survival. One is simply to move in with humans. So what can one do to keep their home safe through the winter months?
1. Make sure your pest control company maintains your exterior perimeter barrier. Most chemicals used for barrier protection breakdown in 3 to 4 months. Skipping a winter service leaves your home vulnerable when it needs it the most.
2. Inspection. Having someone look in on a home that is empty through the winter can save you a lot of hassle down the road. Especially in areas like the crawlspace, attic, storage rooms, garages, etc.

the yellow anaconda, Eunectes notaeus, a smaller species found in eastern Bolivia, southern Brazil, Paraguay and northeastern Argentina; and the dark-spotted anaconda, "Eunectes deschauenseei", a rare species found in northeastern Brazil, coastal French Guiana and Guyana.
All three species are aquatic snakes that prey on other aquatic animals, including fish, river fowl, caiman, and capybaras. Some accounts exist of anacondas preying on domestic animals such as goats and ponies that venture too close to the water. They are found in tropical South America. The most familiar species is the green anaconda, "Eunectes murinus", notable for being one of the world's largest snakes. Green anacondas can grow to be 521 cm (17 ft) in length and weighing 97.5 kg (215 lb).

spotted salamander photos some life detals

Several males are already in Little Pond Pool, from journeys days ago, when light rain over warm earth released them to walk to this water. Each night I spent watching and waiting by the trail at midnight, hoping to meet them before losing them into the darkness of the pool. And, though I see their spotted bodies flash and turn below the water’s surface, it does not feel the same to find them already here.
I miss the walking.
Perhaps because this remarkable migration defines them.
Gathering these solitary beings for just several days into small pools of spring rain.
From adjacent fields and woods, acres beyond these borders, across roads and fences, they will return home.
Then, again, go off to disappear below the ground.

newt pictures & wallpapers

North America, Europe and Asia. Newts metamorphose through three distinct developmental life stages: aquatic larva, terrestrial juvenile (called an eft and adult. Adult newts have lizard-like bodies and may be either fully aquatic, living permanently in the water, or semi-aquatic, living terrestrially but returning to the water each year to breed. They have the ability to regenerate limbs, eyes, spinal cords, hearts, intestines, and upper and lower jaws. The cells at the site of the injury have the ability to de-differentiate, reproduce rapidly, and differentiate again to create a new limb or organ. This distinguishes them from the free-floating eggs of frogs or toads, that are laid in clumps or in strings. Plant leaves are usually folded over and adhered to the eggs to protect them. The tadpoles, which resemble fish fry but are distinguished by their feathery external gills, hatch out in about three weeks. After hatching they eat algae, small invertebrates or other tadpoles.
During the next few months the tadpoles undergo metamorphosis, during which they develop legs, and the gills are absorbed and replaced by air-breathing lungs. Some species, such as the North American newts, also become more brightly coloured during this phase. Once fully metamorphosised they leave the water and live a terrestrial life, when they are known as "efts".
