Head has a dark brown or black V-shaped mark, the top of which points forward and finishes between the eyes.
Colouring varies from light browny-pink to light grey.
Diamond shaped darker markings are found on the back and tail – these are sometimes bordered with white.Venom glands are extremely long – up to 10cms – and found on either side of the spine connecting up to the fangs.
Poor eye sight and a keen sense of smell.An extremely slow moving, non-aggressive snake.Basks during the day and hunts at night.
Diet consists almost exclusively of frogs and toads.
Hatchlings feed on tadpoles.

Whereas the wooded hills and the forest provide shelter to the resident animals, the Periyar Lake is the vast water resource, which quenches their thirst anytime and everytime. The national park and the tiger reserve is rated as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in India for wildlife photography, bird watching, elephant herds and tiger watching.

On account of the persistent efforts of the zoo officials, the number of tigers in the Periyar National Park has rose to forty. Four primate species found at Periyar, which act as the centre of attraction, are the rare lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri Langur, Common Langur and Bonnet Macaque. Periyar is also the only habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr, which is not seen easily.
More than 100 species of butterfly and at least 240 bird species inhabit the area. The park is surrounded by the aromatic spice gardens. These gardens can be deeply explored by the help of good guides who elaborate the medicinal value of each spice.

Chitral National Park is one of the national parks of Pakistan. It is located in Gol valley and Kafir Kalash land of Chitral District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan beside the Chitral River, at a distance of two hours drive from Chitral city. The park is also known as Chitral Gol National Park. The word Gol in the local language means 'the valley'. The status of the park has been in dispute since and has become the issue of ongoing litigation between His Highness and the Government of Pakistan.In September it rains more on the spectacular peaks surrounding the park. However, in November the rainfall is more in the valleys and on the lower peaks .There is also a session of snowfall during the winter season. The snow covered white peaks also enhance the beauty till June. After which it starts melting. The general weather is cold and dry.
